Blanton Museum of Art

The Blanton Museum of Art is one of the most popular museums in Austin City. It has a wide variety of art that ranges from ancient to contemporary and modern art. With the changing exhibitions and the museum's dedication to education, it attracts locals as well as tourists who are visiting Austin, Texas for vacation or business.

History of the Blanton Museum of Art

The Blanton Museum of Art opened in the year 1977 after several years of hard work by many people. It was originally known as the University Art Museum, and it's named for Governor John W. (Jack) Littlefield who helped ensure state funding to make it happen. The building began its life on September 25, 1976, when the ground was broken on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.

Soon after, construction began and it was completed in record time - just 26 months from start to finish! On January 31st, 1978 (just over a year after breaking ground), the museum opened as part of UT's celebration for its Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary).

After moving to its current location in 1993, the Blanton Museum of Art has become one of Austin's most popular museums. It is currently ranked as the second-best museum in Texas (behind Dallas' Kimbell) and it contains some amazing pieces that are worth seeing!

Exhibits

There are many interesting paintings at this museum such as "Untitled (Eagle)" by Jasper Johns or "The Golden Age" by Claude Monet which can be found near the entrance on level two. One of my favorite parts about this museum is all of its educational programs offered for children and adults alike! They offer lectures, workshops, tours among other things so you will never get bored with what they have to offer

Other notable exhibits include "Rothko to Richter: Masterworks from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery" or "Cult of Color: The Modern Mosaic."

The Blanton also offers a unique opportunity for children called Kids @ the Blanton. Here, kids can make art in addition to seeing exhibits and learning about various topics through fun activities!

This museum is a point of interest in Austin, Texas and it is recommended to check it out with friends or family! There are always new things to see whether you're an art enthusiast or just want something fun to do on the weekend.
